Pinup model Jesse Sage stands in front of a tree in a sleeveless red Jungle wiggle dress by Darling Dames

These photos were sponsored by Darling Dames and I am so grateful to them for hiring me to do what I love! All opinions in this post are my own, just so that’s clear.

This dress was inspired by the bombshell Jayne Mansfield and when I put it on and stepped into my heels I could feel why! The structured bodice just made me move like her without even trying and I felt like a beauty queen!

The cut is actually very similar to this one Jayne Mansfield wore in leopard, except that the skirt is a pencil rather than mermaid.

The Jungle Dress

Self Portrait – the first full length I took out of a zillion turned out to be my favorite

I love the deep v in the back that really highlights your back muscles, which modern dresses don’t do enough! And the v in front is the perfect cut to look sexy, but my strapless bra was never sticking out or pulling the dress up. Unless you are as endowed as Jayne was, in that case the boobage will probably be amazing! Depending on the bra you use you can adjust how much cleavage you’d like to show.

This dress in either jungle red or leopard (can we talk!?) is usually $96, but as of this writing, it’s on sale for $66! It says low in stock on the website, and they may restock but I’m not sure. So make sure to order soon if you’d like one for your summer parties.

Sizing tips –

Fabric is 97% Cotton, 3% Spandex with a structured and lined bodice which is nice so you could also go braless. Straps are adjustable and there is an invisible back zip. You can dress this up like I did or pair with a cardigan and a French twist updo for a Mad Men office look. The leopard print would be amazing for a meeting with a black cashmere cardigan.

Because this is a “wiggle” dress you want to make sure you measure yourself and check their sizing chart before ordering. It comes in sizes S-2XL. Their customer service is also really good and I usually ask them for help if I’m not sure on sizing! They advised that I get a small in this dress and I’m glad I listened. I will say that my butt is on the on the larger side of what will fit into the small, so size up if you’re much larger than a 38″ hip.

My measurements at the moment for reference: 36-26-38 and I’m 5’9″ wearing 3″ heels and it hits just below the knee.

Outfit Details

I paired this with this ladylike vintage bag which I will soon be adding to my Sage Collection store! Follow me there on Instagram & I’ll update you when it’s added. I paired it with my gold Guerlain Les Voilettes compact which breaks me out so I use for the mirror and for dress up!

These are by Two Lips in my favorite color, leopard print. My fellow pinup lover Annie gave them to me, so even though they’re too small I love have them on my chifferobe because they make me feel like a fancy lady with shoes just for displaying. I just couldn’t resist wearing them because they went with the look so perfectly! And I’m very glad I got the shot to forever remember because I will never squeeze my feet into those babies again! My little toe has been hating me for it.

Makeup & Hair:

For this look I just did a classic pinup look with a cat eye and red lip. To modernize this you could do a nude lip with a really well blended liner and it would be awesome.

Eyes: Sultry eyes gel liner by 42 Dubonnet (use my code JESSE20 for 20% off)

Shadow: Meet Matte Nude Palette by The Balm

Brows: Tarte Busy Gal Brows in Medium Brown

For the lip I used my L’oreal Lip ink (reviewed here) in I’m Worth It which actually matched the dress perfectly! This look also has a real Anna Nicole vibe (Anna’s look was often based on Jayne’s!) and I’d have loved to do a chili red Anna lip but my favorite lip liner for that was out. That is Rimmel Exxagerate (love the slanted tip, stays on forever, no sharpening) in Call me Crazy with Revlon lipstick in Fire and Ice (an original, vintage shade they still make!)

Powder: Laura Mercier translucent powder and Besame violet powder to brighten.

I set with my Hot Tools hot rollers, brushed and brushed into shape forever, and then set with L’Oreal Ellnet. Which is my go to hair look & hair spray and I love the vintage scent <3.
